Ruby is the red variety of corundum, the same mineral family as sapphire, coloured by traces of chromium. In Vedic astrology it is the stone of the Sun, worn for confidence, standing and clarity of purpose. Colour, clarity and cut together decide a ruby's character, and no two stones read quite the same in daylight.
